Osteria PieriMortadele: The Beating Heart of Udine
In the heart of Udine's historic centre, at Riva Bartolini 8, there is a corner of authenticity and tradition: Osteria PieriMortadele. A place that tells a fascinating story — one that began in the early 1900s as a simple pastry shop.
In the 1960s, the legendary Pieri took over and transformed it into a reference point for lovers of Friulian cuisine.
The real turning point came with the 1974 Alpine Corps Gathering, when Pieri introduced one of the osteria's most celebrated traditions: the Giant Mortadella — a single mortadella weighing up to 260 kg, a symbol of the generosity and conviviality that define this place.
Since 2003, Paolo and Luca have run the osteria, preserving its historic soul while bringing a breath of fresh air. With passion and care, they've maintained the warm, familiar atmosphere while expanding the offering — freshly prepared sandwiches and sharing boards, a selection of local cured meats and mountain cheeses, all strictly sourced from Friuli. And a carefully curated wine list featuring exclusively Friulian labels, including some from small, little-known producers.
But PieriMortadele is more than food and wine — it's a place where Paolo and Luca's warmth makes every guest feel right at home.
VeroAmaro Favero
Paolo introduces us to one of Friuli's most authentic treasures: VeroAmaro Favero. Born in the heart of Udine at the historic Farmacia Favero, this is an amaro that tastes of history, passion and territory.
Crafted from 14 carefully selected aromatic herbs, the result is a balanced amaro with a strong, unmistakable personality. Bold on the palate, with a long, lingering finish that stays with you. Much like Osteria PieriMortadele itself — the perfect balance between taste and tradition.
